Bozen University Expansion

The vast site for the competition to design the new Brixen University Campus is situated at the margins of a historic city in the Northern Italian region of Alto Adige.
This former quarry features a complex morphology and is set against backdrop of mountains.
The project called for a new university structure with parking, a bus station, an auditorium and a library: a complex of buildings designed as an urban hub marking the confluence of various flows and collective activities of varying types, constituting the “external face” along the state road, and an “internal face” that welcomes the flows and energies of the historic centre. The complex is home to a large open plaza overlooked by the “public” activities of the University: cafeteria, library, auditorium, gymnasium, garage and hall. The educational and administrative activities are situated on the upper levels. Inside is a large park of landscaped areas and water features.
