The insertion of the “too big” in the landscape of Roncade
A parallelepiped of twenty-eight meters in height, like a residential building of nine floors. Three hundred twenty meters long one side and the other 200 meters. Located at the exit of Meolo, along the motorway that connects Trieste with Venice and Padua, one of the busiest in Europe.
A monstrously large warehouse in the middle of the countryside. A monument to e-commerce, which in recent years, thanks to the pandemic, has absorbed more than 35% of the consumer goods exchange.
The impact on the landscape of the Venetian countryside is objectively violent and not enough games of color or polychromy on the facades to make it acceptable. Let’s try to change register, reversing the game and turning the large parallelepiped into a witness of the surrounding agricultural landscape, giving up a camouflage restyling.
The different sides of the building thus become custodians and educational exhibition of the plant and arboreal essences that characterize the landscape of the Venetian countryside: Mulberry, Elm, Alder, Maple, Salgaro.
Large vases with native tree species are hung on a self-supporting steel structure covered with expanded metal that covers the most visible portion of the building. A skin 18 meters high, where plants such as the Caprifoglio climber, the Canadian vine and the Ivy Hibernica can easily cling.
The facades of the building thus become a green architecture that acts as a background and is linked with the typical arboreal textures of the “campo veneto”. A game of shades, lights and shadows that tries to “dematerialize” as much as possible the volume off scale of the new Amazon center.
A bet not to be missed for the future.
