Tower of Masts
Restoration of the Torre delle Alberature at the Arsenale of Venice
The Tower of the Masts was completed in 1813 in order to quickly arm French warships.
Over the course of the history of the Arsenal, the Tower of the Masts became a strategic point for the location of a pedestrian bridge that connects the northern part of the Arsenal, the productive and administrative area, with the southern Arsenal, used for cultural events and as a museum, above all by the Venice Biennale.
The interior of the tower contains a library, an information point about the Venice Arsenal, a restaurant and the Arsenal’s archives.
The project includes: a mobile exterior walkway in steel and a self-supporting corten steel “sculpture” that houses the route through the exhibition on the interior.
