Masterplan of Addis Ababa

The capital city of the Ethiopian plateau. A horizontal and low density conurbation, which requires a new Masterplan, capable of giving order to a self-constructed conurbation, capable of guaranteeing often the only survival.

An “impossible” undertaking that the University Institute of Architecture of Venice IUAV, together with some departments of other Universities, entrusts to some teachers.

Alberto Cecchetto will take care of the urban design, the Urban Design of some sample areas, proposing new building schemes, which use the few resources available, respecting the practice of self-building that is well present in the urban community in recent decades.

A plan for exemplary projects, which tend to respect the identities of the community and to improve housing standards as much as possible.
